Constanta Port Business Association, key participant in the event in Astana, Kazakhstan, which strengthened the strategic position of Constanța Port on the Middle Corridor
In April 2023, Constanța Port Business Association, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Romania, organized the Caspian Sea – Black Sea Forum for the first time. The objective of the event was to develop trade on the Middle Corridor, exploring the economic potential of the Caspian – Black Sea route. It marked the beginning of a dialogue between the states of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, emphasizing the importance of the Port of Constanța in the global economic context.
This week, the business community of Constanța Port received the invitation to participate in the diplomatic and economic mission organized by CN Administratia Porturilor Maritime SA Constanța, in Astana, Kazakhstan. The event, held on October 15, aimed to promote the strategic commercial position of Constanța Port as a Black Sea hub, on the transport route of the Middle Corridor.
Organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Romania in Kazakhstan, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Romania and the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in Constanta, the event was held in the presence of Romanian officials from the Ministry of Transport, the Cabinet of the Prime Minister and the Romanian port authorities. This meeting provided not only opportunities to strengthen diplomatic relations, but also to expand economic cooperation between the two states.
The participation of the business environment from the Port of Constanța, represented by companies with Romanian capital and large international investors from the port operation, logistics and trade sectors, underlined the importance of the event. Under the umbrella of Constanța Port Business Association, these companies contribute significantly to the national and local economy, having an annual turnover of over 2.4 billion euros and ensuring about 70% of the annual traffic of goods from the Port of Constanța.
The event organized by the Port Administration facilitated the resumption of the commercial dialogue between the port and transport industry companies from Romania and Kazakhstan. The contribution of the private environment in Constanța Port, represented by Constanța Port Business Association, essential through the intensive promotion of port facilities and multimodal transport in Romania and the interest given to the potential of the Middle Corridor, supports the premises for this route to gain increased importance and Constanța Port to become a strategic node on the East-West trade axis, connecting the states bordering the Caspian Sea and Central Asia with the European hinterland.
The association was represented in Astana by some of the member companies, through the management of Intertrans Company, Sea Container Group, Midia International, Comvex, Svad Shipping, Vittera.
Constanta Port Business Association thanks the authorities and officials for the organization and invitation to participate in a crucial event for the development of strategic partnerships with an economic region whose exchange of goods with European states has been continuously increasing in the last decade and which has the potential to redirect trade flows through Romania. Thanks to Her Excellency the Ambassador of Romania in Kazakhstan Madalina Lupu and the Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Constanta Corina Martin – a constant and active presence, essential in strengthening the relations between Romania and Kazakhstan.
